Mothballs won this event 2 years ago, and we were first visitor last year so we are off to race again on 13/14 July (and I have double booked myself...) So far the team is Gary Tompkins, Ed Deacon, Abby Freeley, Tim Lupton - I am hoping Richard Keefe will not be working.... Can we entice anyone else along? Either as helm and/or as shore support easing the pain of the galley, time keeping, safety boat duties. Barbecue Saturday night - camping, beer, wine. laughter.. What more can you ask for - and all in a good cause. www.paxtonlakes.org.uk for more info - but let me know here. Cheers Abby

Well, we have enticed Colin along to sail with us. This year the Race is held in support of the Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust. If you can't come along and sail please support the team and this worthy cause with a donation through Just Giving - I haven't set up a dedicated page but that doesn't mean you can't contribute. www.justgiving.com/emtrustThanks Abby

Mothballs used the Moth weather to perfect advantage to win the Paxton Lakes 24 Hour race in support of the Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust by one lap. We sailed in age order so Tim Lupton started us off on Saturday with a great start. There was quite a lot of weed, and local knowledge of where the flukey wind would be meant that we sailed most of Saturday in 2nd place, getting up to first (Colin Hall and Ed Deacon). The wind was so light that the Race Officer wisely suspended proceedings about 7.30 Saturday night. The break allowed for beer, and in our case strawberries from Colin & Elaine's allottment and sleep! Sadly Richard Keefe arrived at 3.30am, found the Club asleep and went home without a sail.. We restarted at 7.00am Sunday morning in first place. Hannah Whiteside led us off this morning and got a great start which Steve Whiteside held together. The main competition was the Welwyn Garden City Supernova and Paxton Lakes Laser team. Gary went really well this morning and let me take over in a good position. My goal for the morning was to sit on the Supernova and I succeeded pretty well. Colin gave us a bit of a scare by doing a bit of gardening, but Ed sailed us home in fine style - crossing the line just after the finishing cannon. My thanks to Hannah, Steve and Cate Whiteside - Hannah & Steve only got an hour's sail because of the stoppage time - Cate did duties for us - Colin Hall, Tim Lupton, Ed Deacon (who is beginning a cycle ride to Paris Monday morning) Gary and Richard for making the effort, as well as the Paxton team who do a great job.
First Over all and Visitor - Mothballs - 44 Laps, Second - Wellie Win Supernova - 43 Laps, Third Paxton Laser - 41.6 laps.
