Hi All, refurb of 713 coming on slower than anticipated , work gets in the way. Any advise on self bailer position please.? Mast support has new bulkhead fore & aft, all bulkhead taped joints have been replaced with epoxy fillets, double floor down, hopefully popping the new decks on this weekend and then turn her over and re-tape joints fairing up and coating. The old bailer position was behind the centre board case which I thought I would be stamping on on a regular basis, advise and guidance appreciated. JH

I got some advice from Godfrey; "level the boat and put it in the deepest part of the cockpit as near to the centre line as possible"
I think you can just see the hole I've cut on my latest blog post, it is just forward of the starboard "knee" position. This is roughly where the old one was.
I'm going to fit an anderson mini bailer (again after advice) as it fits from the outside (super-mini fits from inside) and doesn't need a specific hull thickness (super-mini is max 6mm). With the second cockpit floor in I've got a thickness of just over 9mm.
The old one was a super suck thing which was great when it worked but rarely worked properly, leaked and was prone to breaking when stepped on.
You can put one either side if you want, but I'm using one until I know whether I need two or not. Oh yes, and also because they are 40 quid each!

Paul best to fit 2 in my opinion especially on a short foredeck boat. On the rare occaisions [mainly on Open water] that you do start collecting the wet stuff over the front you need to get rid off it quickly. Anderson Bailers are the norm but I am not a fan of the Super-Mini....tiddly little things. Will probably be fitting the Triangular Allen Bailers in the new boat.Well made quite light and with a good shape below the water....check them out.Workmanship and action looks really good and they look very neat. As for positions would always elect to fit one forward and another opposite side towards the back end of the Platecase to shift water when planing. Positioned there you will not normally tread on it. Alternatively a more outboard position for the rear bailer adjacent to the side tanks could be considered. RW

Thanks for the advice. Will go for two bailer option me thinks. I will have a look at the triangular bailers. How far back for the rear one? bit clumsy on the pins these days so worried about stamping on it! thanks JH

As suggested rear bailer adjacent to rear of Centreboard case as close as you can ....it is probably the best place to put it where you will not stand on it .

My boat has the bailer at the back of the cockpit, this seems an odd position but doesn't get in the way & does get rid of water when it's windy enough to come in.
My previous boat had a bailer each side of the centreboard case which shifted water really quickly & were located under the thwart, where I couldn't tread on them.

Thank you all for your advice. Looked at the triangular bailers, very stylish but I think it would be a bit over the top for 713 probably spent far too much already. I would definitely go for them on a new boat. Thanks JH
