Evenin' all. I've just bought Nutmeg (827) from Paul. Perhaps someone could update the fleet list ? Nutmeg is now based at Rutland Sailing Club, and owned by Andrew Crookell (i.e. me!) Hope to see some of you around at Open meetings/Nationals once I've got the hang of racing her. All the best, Andrew

Greetings Andrew and WELCOME ! As one time owners of "Nutmeg" we know her well. A Very pretty boat. Hope you will have fun sailing her and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming Opens and the Nationals. Guess you know there are two Opens "next door-ish" to you in July at Cam and Hunts and the Nationals a couple of weeks later at Northampton. Guess that we can now encourage you to part with a little more loot and join the BMBA and re-register the boat in your name and you will be all set. Needless to say if you need any help or if you have any questions sing out and we will do our best to help you. We are not a Class with rigid must-do/must have tuning parameters and set-ups but there is usually someone who can help or advise. A few fundamentals exist of course but because we have so much scope with Rigs,Controls and Foil shapes etc the tuning potential is considerable. Saying all this you could of course be an Ex-Olympian or Sailing Superstar ! The big welcome still applies... We are always intersted in why you chose a British Moth ,perhaps you have sailed one previously and above all else how you got on your 1st race at Rutland. Hope to meet you soon. Welcome to the world of British Moths.
If you can make it try to get to the Nationals at Northampton. You will be welcomed with open arms. By the way Roger has agreed to by a pint to all "Newbies" to the Nationals this year. It was my first last year and I enjoyed both the sailing and the social side.

Thank you, Roger and Simon, for your warm welcome.
I have already sent the logbook off along with some cash for BMBA membership and to register the ownership change - did that they day after I got Nutmeg back here.
I can't lay claim to being an ex-Olympian or sailing superstar... *sigh* I have been an instructor for the last 30 years, and a club racing coach for the last few, but oddly enough helping others improve their sailing has got in the way of me doing anything very much to improve mine. Hence the British Moth.
You asked for reasons why I chose this class. In no particular order: - I studied the BMBA website, fora, reports etc. and liked the friendliness I saw there - I wanted a boat that would stretch my racing ability and demand improvement from me - Most of the racing I could do is Thursday night club racing.. typically light airs, so I wanted a boat that would be good in those conditions - I wanted a boat that I could afford that might actually be competitive, and I couldn't afford a competitive Phantom - British Moths are just so damned good looking !
I am thinking quite seriously about Northampton, although my weekend commitments mean that I won't make the Cams or Hunts open meetings. The promise of Roger's beer adds to the incentives :-) I'd love to hear some of the wisdom and options re. Moth tuning, too - especially since some of you already know Nutmeg so well.
Winds at Rutland Water last night were force 3 gusting 5 so I chickened out of a first British Moth race and raced a Laser 2 instead. It was a cracking high speed very wet and splashy sail, enhanced greatly by a couple of Guinesses afterwards.

That was my plan this season; to sail the British Moth on wednesday evenings in the light winds and sail my Streaker the rest of the time. If you have a look at the Ripon SC Wednesday results you can spot the (3 so far) light wind evenings. The rest have been force 3 or above. The downside is that my plan hasn't worked, the upside is that I am sailing the BM better. I'm going to make a decision about the Nationals after my hols but can recommend the experience. I'm not good enough to contend but I know I'll enjoy it if I go, it is a good social as well as sailing week in my limited experience.

Paul
What a load of rubbish - You are not good enough to contend.... You sail a moth that's all that matters. Come and have a laugh at the back of the fleet with me. We can compete for last place:-)

Remember! There is now the Bit in the Middle trophy too - it is looking very lovely on the cupboard waiting for a name to be inscribed for the first time and it is not available to the guys/gals at the front.
