Great conditions if a little gusty and tricky at Saltford,Nr Bath for the British Moth Open. The event was run alongside and integrated into BASC,s Regatta. Holidays, other commitments and in some cases damaged boats kept the entries down.Once again the Moth proved to be the ideal boat for this water against the home Clubs Comet variants,Lightnings and graceful Mercury,s. Tony Latham,s return visit to BASC showed considerable improvement over his first visit until a broken lower on a hairy downwind leg in Race 2 saw Tony take a much closer look at the Reeds than he anticipated ! BASC Junior Finlay Claydon sailed very well all day with only the very tricky top buoy causing him any issues...here the wind circled around unpredicatbly...you either had it or you didn,t ! Race 2 was held in the strongest breeze of the day with Moths starting before the Junior/Novice Races. The carnage brought about by some very strong gusts saw the Moths planing back through the Juniors/Novices up-turned boats as the plucky BASC Juniors attempted to start. Overall Results... 1st - Roger Witts -880- Frampton -on- Severn S.C.[1,1,1] 2nd - Tony Latham -756- Frampton-on-Severn S.C.[2,R,2] 3rd - Finlay Claydon -630- B.A.S.C.[3,R,3] The beautiful "Padfield Trophy"was taken out storage for the occaision again and put back for safe keeping after the presentation.Bath Cheeses[courtesy of the Padfield Family and BASC]were presented. Thanks to Simon Woollen and Mike Brock and ALL at BASC for the very friendly welcome. Roger Witts FRAMPTON MOTHS
