Looks like there is plenty of work to do. Alot will depend on how soft the wood is. THis may be a real challenge for me to bring back up to scratch. Must admit am very tempted myself, after all I have had a bit of practise recently with "Bertie"

Another ex-Broxbourne boat. A pre-meritlock one-off by Jeff Ambrose at Fen Ditton. Sailed at BSC by Andrew Cooper until he got given the Claridge. Quite solidly built. I rescued it once & sold it on, then whoever re-painted it red must have rescued it again from the Stewartby dinghypark where it had been left gathering cobwebs. She was never a rocket-ship but is solid and comfortable to hike.

Still looking like a real bargain with a good P & B sail although I did not make the dog-leg board for this boat. The original one was rather short. Don't think I could face the drive to Sheffield though..... Go on Paul, keep her in the fold!

Agree with my Buddy Godfrey Paul ..... go get her ! Incidentally the sail is an ex sail, off of "Nutmeg"827 we sold some time back. The sail was in good nick and looks to be still good. Sheffield is almost on the way to Asda for you surely !

I was going to bid but didn't in the end as I decided I have enough projects on the go at the moment and also don't really have anywhere to do the work.
Mind you, it was probably worth buying for the sail!
Also, I have just bought a nearly new streaker (Rooster FRP) to sail whilst my moth is being repaired. There is a growing fleet of streakers at Ripon. My standard of sailing probably won't do it justice but at least it shouldn't need repairing twice a season.
I'm going to keep 784 to nick the light wind wednesday evening handicaps/pursuits.
Cheers Paul

Hello all, up date info. BRITISH MOTH 617 new name TIFFIN Collected the Moth from South Sheffield turn out to be some one I had met before who lived at Welwyn at one time small world. My first JOB last week was to make a cradle fit my combi base trailer.
All worked out ok for the journey back home down the M1 most of the way at 50 MPH so suited me just fine.
First job this week was to clear the garage to make room for the moth inside.
FIRST LOOK AT THE DINGHY The varnish looks very tired on the top decks and some dark areas . I will need to strip all the old varnish off to bare wood. Not found any soft wood to date but there has been some repair's done in the past some good some not so good. I will have to make a decision on re-varnish or may be paint top deck say IE. light blue Will re-varnish transom and inner gunwales angle side decks
Will paint hull inner floor with Gray non slip paint.
.The hull will just need a paint over, may be Dark blue ( as the hull is not too bad for age of boat some small chips only)
The boat needs to be given a brighten up as looks old.
The Mast and boom are old but ok, will need to update stay wires.
The sail seems to be good condition in bag rolled as advert.
Centreboard has a split hook handle, could do a repair too this!
There is also a newish centreboard not fitted in the boat seems to be a completely different shape to old one. but my limited understanding of the Moth rules are if the board fits the centre board case then this would be ok.
Have now taken the old board out of the boat, came out ok.
Will keep you up dated as we go along Regards mike
