Home sweet home.
Am back home and safe after a great week away. The sailing could not have been better and it was so nice to share it with like minded Moth Sailors.
Wild Bill's views on our races at sea differ slightly from mine but we do share something it was amazing sailing the reach almost side by side with Bill under taking me on Both laps on a very long reach. The marks so far apart that you could not see them. As for thrashing me well I was leading around the last Mark after we had swopped places taking the lead twice each. The long beat home against a very fast tide left me taking the wrong route back and Bill taking the line some distance and time in front of me. Well done Bill.
The second race was on both mine and the boats limits. Taking the start I was wishing I had not demolished quite so many bottles of wine the night before at the Prize giving party. When I had asked the OOD for the course and to point out the Marks he smiled and said see that Yellow Marker in the harbor entrance (Me thinking not so bad) well pass just to the left of that and keep going and you will see it eventually. Well after a long heart stopping run we made it to the Mark and turned onto the reach. After planning for 10 mins on which the sheer speed would not allow my centre board to stay down even a little we could see the mark approaching at speed. The only other noise apart from the wind was Bill and I hooting with delight. Bill rounded the mark 1st and we started on an epic beat! I managed to take a 50yrd lead by the end of the beat and was relieved to be back on the run to use a few different muscles. Once again Bill was much quicker on the reach and rounded the next Mark just in front of me. The long beat home saw me taking the line in front of Bill to make it 1 a piece on the day.
Best sailing I have ever done.
The rest of the week was great to with other trips on and off the water. I am sure someone will fill you in on the proper Moth events and the outings and big boat sailing some of us did.
A big thanks to everyone who made it possible.
Special thanks to John and Kate!!!
