Now that ive got my new toy,Zig Zag, ive got a couple of issues with it 1.The centreboard. As Elaine posted it flops about and needs a rope and cleat to hold it down.it looks very thin, and the seal underneath has a 2mm gap all along it.it is fixed by two aluminium stips screwed upwards and a piece of stainless across it at the front end.Looking at the Hawk website they do a mylar/dacron seal,is that a better set up being glued on?Does that do away with the ally strips that must give a bit of drag.At the moment there doesnt appear to be any friction device to hold the board down,I wonder does the mylar seal do it? I wonder if I should consider a fresh centreboard,as it is probably old hat by now. 2.Me I obviously need some training at trimming,I hadnt thought about reverse airflow when downwind!I wonder if frampton would let me join in?I have bought a burgee and a watch so I might be nearer the start line next time! I loved the Frampton Fling, sorry about not being sociable after Bill stopped but my legs were giving up.Great time Robin

Centreboards are the bane of my life. Less so now that I've stopped breaking them, but last year was miserable.
Alternatives to a new one might be a second hand Solo board. I certainly looked at that as a possibility last time I snapped Atlantic's.
Otherwise might be worth having a word with Graham Pope or, perhaps, Jeremy Higson (did you see the unfinished rudder blade he brought with him to the Open last Saturday? Utterly gorgeous)
Screwing a bit of hosepipe into the top of your existing blade might work as a brake (ie. tighten the screws to flatten out the hose and increase its grip as needed).
Might sound daft, but on my old Mirror, I used to use old CD's as big washers to stop the rudder rattling in its case. That might work on a centreboard . . .
It has been suggested here before now that, whilst we're all quick to spend ready cash on crispy new sails for our precious little boats, more often that not half that money spent instead in the direction of the foils might well have twice the effect ;D
It would be great to see you back at Frampton again.
We don't have any more official gatherings on the water planned until the spring Open, but the winter series starts in a couple of weeks and carries on each Sunday through till around Christmas. Doubtless a few of us will be braving the frost to sail in that. Let us know if you fancy a trip up, I'm sure any of us would be happy to sign you in as a guest.

thanks Bill, I guess ill try screwing hose pipe on the edge of the board .I would like to have a go at Frampton again, In fact I would like to join but I guess I am outside the catchment area, after all someone has to support the fleet from the back!Seems a reasurgance of interest in moths,if it is of use I can give you my old small sail from 442 if you are setting 601 up for juniors. Robin Don,t believe there is a catchment area for FOSSC,my only concern is the distance from down there in Devonia. Thanks for the kind offer of a small sail for the Juniors. We already have a collection of small sails kindly donated some time back by Godfrey and Claire Clark. In addition when we can get the Juniors out[must be dry, sunny with light-ish winds so that they can beat everything!] they now "demand" good race sails[wonder where they got that from]so we have to let them loose with the best kit we have got ! As for the re-surgence well time will tell but there certainly does seem to be an interest in new boats.I personally know of possibly 6 in build or lined up to be built thro the winter, plus a couple of other possibles. This mounts up to more boats being built than the last 3 or 4 years. Also importantly for the Class is that some reasonble boats have been available second-hand..some already have been sold and some may be advertised in the future. So resurgence??...possibly yes in a subdued sort of way.

I take the point about distance,to be a viable club member I would not want a two and a half hour drive every weekend.I will creep up as a guest please, as I think competition with other moths can be great fun.Now to get the work done!! Robin

Thank you Bill for your idea re a cd, but I cant find any of your bands cds so I have taken the boat to graham for a new foil and a rig check.Looking forward to a thrash round Frampton with a foil that works. Robin
