My membership sticker and sailing programme from my club arrived yesterday and my boat is still upside down!
As I am about to repaint the hull after repairs, I have to replace the slot gasket.
I had a sailcloth one with battens but would like to try using a mylar one as this would negate the need for the battens and so give less drag (hopefully).
I saw the piece on slot gaskets in the Chrysalis (online) but does anyone have a blow by blow "how to fit a slot gasket to a moth" that an idiot like me could follow?
I'm particularly concerned about what to put at the front of the slot to cover the join of the two bits of mylar.
Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, a few basic rules to applying a slot gasket... key the area with sandpaper, then clean, check your glue if it has turned lumpy and is hard to spread it is a waste of time, needs to be good and gooey, applied to both boat and mylar and then left for however long they state before positioning and burnish on with the back of a spoon... fit the mylar gasket in one piece (no joint) shape the front if you like... once dried then you cut the slot with a knife, you may need to make a Y shape cut at either end to allow the board to move reasonably freely, depends how fat your board is! Horrible job.. good luck

Or do like I do. Botch the job repeatedly till somebody more able takes pity and sorts it out for you!

I've bought a Holt 50mm kit, hopefully I won't make a mess of it!

Unfortunately made a mess of this today, the last coat of paint hadn't dried properly and the glue lifted the paint in places. Also the 50mm gasket didn't seem wide enough to give enough gasket either side of the slot. Getting some 75mm and trying again next weekend.

Put the 75mm one on today, seemed to go on much easier.
Had two goes at it though because the destructions on the kit said wait until the glue dries on boat and gasket before putting them together. Load of rubbish! Had to remove dried glue from boat and do again.
Hopefully it will be stuck down solidly, we'll see tomorrow.
So after 3 attempts I think I now know how to put a slot gasket on, just hope I cut the slot OK.

Sorry for dredging up an old thread, but I thought we could keep information together.
What is the best glue to stick Slot Gaskets back on? Mine were starting to come loose and fell off when I pulled...
