Lappet and I came a very (I think!) credible 107 from 160+ fleet. Since my goals were a) have fun, b) not embarass the BMBA and c) finish not last I am really pleased with how we did. It was cold, and foggy (sailed down the Lake for the first start and had to turn around and go back as they postponed for 1 1/2 hours, visibility was very bad and apparently they were worried about some debris in the water) but otherwise great Moth sailing. I started in the first group for the Pursuit and went round the 1st mark first - REALLY annoying a kid in a Miracle who shouted something to the effect that if I wanted to be first round the mark go ahead but then I should stop getting in his way (obviously I was doing a pretty good job of covering him at the time:>).....gee, I thought we were racing! He put his spinnaker up and disappeared, but I was pleased to see he did, finally get caught. I finished the Pursuit in 88th place - top half finish! I had more fun in the British Moth than Gary did in a Laser (and I beat him). If there are six boats, we get a Class prize. Maybe next year? Think about where I finish in the Nationals and work out how well as Class we could have done.

Well done Abby. It is always hard to get a good result in a pursuit race on open water – the river PY not doing us any favours. Perhaps with more open water clubs returning results to the RYA this will improve? Fine Moth weather on the Sunday, it’s always good to know that others are out there racing too.
Hopefully Gary will have learned a salutary lesson – a Laser, really!
Perhaps we could put a team together for next year and we could imbue the Miracle Kid (he will need one) with some humility.
