F9wey update.
In the normal Fowey fashion here is a rough itinerary for this year's trip south.
Hosted as always by Gallants sailing club with John Burford as our main contact and OOD.
Fri 24th May, meet and greet at the Gallion water front bar. There will be someone there from "about" lunch time. Look out for Wild Bill Gribble majestically sailing up the harbour to his weekend mooring. Newbies to F9wey will be met at the car park and told where to go. In a nice way, as in where to put their Moth or pointed in the direction of the pub.
Most eat and drink at the Gallion on Friday evening and there will be live music. I suggest a visit to our hosts at Gallants for a pint or Two on the sun deck at some point during the day.
Sat 25th May. If you haven't already rigged your boat then you will need an early start. Semi formal briefing to be held 10am at Caffa Mill car park. Gary you must know where this is now. Boats launched at 10.15am and depending on conditions a plan will be made for the day. This will be the mini race day series. Not sure how many but lots. We will stop for lunch at some point and then back on the water for more racing.
This year there will be a meal included at Gallants. Please wear your F9wey T-Shirt as there will be a group photo. Meet at the club for 6pm food served from 6.30pm to allow for those bringing children. Entertainment will be provided at the club and as Gallants are kindly hosting us it would be good if people stay a while to mingle.
Sun 26th. 10am sharp launch as this is the Sea Championship race day. 4 proper races with 1 discard. 2 races back to back then lunch at Gallants. Back on the water for 2 more races.
Sun evening is all about the beach party sponsored by Bosco a F9wey virgin who is providing some pre drinks. This will be followed by dinner at Sam's over at Polkerris. I have pre booked the restaurant but this is a pay as you eat affair and not included in the event price. I will post menus at some point. Bill will be playing live on the beach both before and after dinner. Probably at his best before I fill him with Gin.
Mon 27th is another 10am start. This will be a mixture of mini races ( they will count towards the series) a treasure hunt and the Brown Willy race. Today will involve an on water lunch Pastie?
Mon evening is Wild Wild West night. Prizes for best fancy dress. This is our prize giving night and will be held after a 3 course meal at the Fowey Royal Yacht Club. Meet on the terrace for pre drinks at 6.30pm
Tue 28th is time to catch Crabs. Competition details to follow. It's a good day to catch up on your treasure hunt skills and joint the sand castle competition.
Wed 29th. Cream tea sponsored by Sam and Richard Keefe. This will be held at the beautiful water side cottage I am sharing with Ray Andrews a F9wey virgin. There is a great view of the start line so a great vantage point to watch the Troy's from. Meet at 4.30 for Scones so those wishing to join the locals sailing on Wed eve can make the start. Bring a bottle if you want to wash those Scones down with something more than tea. I will tell you what the cottage is called when I remember its name. It's a few doors up from the Royal Yacht Club.
Thurs 30th. I will be out sailing if anyone wants to join me. No safety boat cover on this day!
So that's a rough guide. Sea Championships day may change to Sat 25th depending on conditions.
