Morning All,
Just a speculative message to see if anyone would be interested in purchasing 617? This is Newtwitu, the 1974 championship winner and still competitive today, particularly in stronger winds.
As a little background, I bought 617 from Gavin Hall in late 2014 and spent two months stripping her to bare wood, re-sealing and rebuilding her. I refurbished the original 'spoon' centreboard and re-epoxied the dog-leg centreboard (which is currently fitted and is excellent).
The deck and cockpit have two coats of epoxy and six layers of Epifanes varnish.
Main Components:
- Excellent condition M7 mast. New mast foot.
- Near perfect Superspars boom with low friction outhaul (very effective).
- Excellent condition North laminate sail courtesy of Roger Witts (thanks Roger).
- Original boom and sail come with the boat. Original SSS mast is still down at the club if you really want it in all its bendy glory.
I replaced every fixture and fitting on the boat:
- New continuous Marlow Excel control lines throughout: forestay, kicker, outhaul, cunningham and lowers.
- Ronstan mini-blocks for all control lines. Allen Hi-load blocks for… well, the high load areas!
- New shrouds and forestay.
- New 7mm Polilite mainsheet running through Harken Carbo and Ratchamatic blocks.
- New Allen cleats on all controls.
- Even the rudder has auto-release clamcleats, just in case.
Over-boom cover bought new at the 2015 Dinghy Show. Perfectly serviceable launching trolley. I do have a separate road trailer that you'd be welcome to use but it doesn't fit the launch trolley. Nevertheless, it is what I use.
There is a catch! I noticed a leak in the forward tank a few weeks ago and traced it to an untaped seam. I therefore brought her home and last weekend stripped 80% of hull (deck remains untouched). I have new tape and epoxy on order which you could have at less than cost. So the catch is that you'd need to finish the hull. Everything else is done, finished and ready to go. Now I've been told that the job I was going to be moving to may have changed so we may not be able to take Newt with us.
If I don't (or am unable) to take 617 with us when we move in a few weeks and she hasn't been sold, I'm not sure what I will do, hence this message. At the moment the boat is in my neighbour's garage in Marlow (SL7) but I could transport within a reasonable distance.
So if anyone is interested or knows anyone else who might be, please get in touch. Unfortunately the pictures I have are too large for this site but I have included three on my BM Facebook post. I also have about another 50, detailing the whole restoration, if you're interested.
As I say, this is speculative at the moment but may very quickly become urgent! Please contact me through this site, at danielbelluk@yahoo.co.uk or through the BM Facebook page.
All the best, Dan
