When I took the control line cleats off 784 before starting the repairs, I noticed some of them were quite worn - I had notice the odd slip of a control line at the nationals.
Does anyone have any recommendations regarding good replacements? What make, size etc, what are the pros and cons.
I know it is probably personal preference but as they are so expensive I want to get the right ones first time.
Cheers Paul

I believe Harken are the best cleat but typically the most expensive. Though not much in them all these days, Ronstan not bad had them on my Solo, Allen are also good and made in Britain! I'm sure being a Yorkshireman you will source out the best deal !! ;D

Funnily enough I was after a more detailed answer What about these X-treme or Pro fairleads - are they a good thing or just go faster stripes? Which actual models are best in terms of longer lasting teeth - carbon or alloy. I don't mind paying for good quality equipment if it is going to last, I just don't want to fall victim to marketing hype. Anyway, up here in the frozen north we need to be careful with our money, heating is expensive and it is 4 degrees cooler up here than where you soft southern jessies live. I've actually considered putting the old ones back on and waiting to find out if the repairs have worked before lashing out 120 quid on six cam cleats.

On Ebay there is a trader called Mirror Marine. He sells brand new kit. It is also a lot cheaper than most chandlers. Being a fellow Yorkshireman this might help with getting the cleats and heating your log cabin!!

So, I decided what to do. Rob will appreciate my logic here as he knows how careful we Yorkshiremen are.
The cam cleats that have worn down were the cheaper allen ones but as I had already got the front leads and wedges I thought that if I bought the same make of cleats I could recycle the leads and wedges.
So I bought 6 expensive Allen cleats but saved a fiver per cleat by not having to buy the leads etc.
The 30 quid went towards two double harken blocks that are replacing two triples for the control lines. I put the kicker on its own single blocks (with swivel!) during the nationals last year.
If anyone wants two almost new harken ball bearing triples (used for half of last season) then make me an offer ;D
