After a couple of months of owning a Moth, and several well spent hours on the water sailing 737 "Pimento" one thing has become increasingly obvious; launching and recovering is a real pig of a job! Almost every launch, even in very light conditions, has ended up in the boat either almost coming off the trolley or even in some cases just capsizing and coming off the trolley entirely?! Also in the boat park many a time have I come back to her, off the trolley, leaning on the neighbouring MustoSkiff? And it's now got to the point where I'm not only afraid that I'm going to seriously damage my boat but others around it as well... So I consulted fellow sailors on their opinions and have had many useful tips: I've tried raising the main in the boat park, on the slip, almost in the water, but still the same problems; I've tried different sail controls whilst launching, tonnes of kicker/ no kicker etc.; but seemingly the problem is the launching trolley? Its not a 'cradle' type, it's just 2 hinged rubber pads supporting the boat on the bottom and so it doesn't prevent the boat from tipping on land. And so the search for a new trolley started but it became obvious pretty obvious a British Moth launching trolley isn't too easy to come by... So if somebody could please give me a nudge in the right direction I'd be very grateful Also any advice from people who know where I might be going wrong? Thankyou Philip Rutland Mothist.

Philip,
Not sure how to solve the launching issue, but the boat falling over in the boat park is easy to sort by tie-ing it down, either use spiral tie downs screwed into the ground or weights. We have tyres filled with concrete with metal loops at my club.
If your trolley floating causes problems you can part fill your tyres with water or buy wheels with solid tyres.
Hope this helps.

Floating isn't really an issue as my trolley has solid wheels, but thankyou very much for the weight/screws advice! I'll be sure to give it a try Philip

Philip Have sent you an e-mail with some thoughts... Your Trolley does not seem that is giving the boat enough support. A cradle type Trolley is perhaps best but it is essential to provide a good forward hull support and a bow snubber. Moths are light so can blow off of their Trolleys with a sail up... Even with a cradle type Trolley its a good idea to temporarily tie the boat down to the Trolley at least if the sail is up..a piece of line around the shrouds down to the Trolley will usually do. RW

i had to get a new trolley a couple of years ago and can highly reccomend DIXON-BATE as they supplied me with a very good trolley. All i needed to do once put together was add some carpet in thye right places to prevent scuffing the boat and its been great evr since. They also do a good combi setup. They do cost a wee bit but i would say worth it.
