Chris,
I recently got a new Pinnell & Bax polycotton over boom cover. Excellent. Fit is good, appearance is good, fastenings are strong and robust. No complaints at all.
On balance price wise, the P&B covers are more expensive. I was originally going to get a cover elsewhere, but at the time, the mast was down and I couldn't make all the measurements that every other company requires. Because of this, I went for the cover that didn't ask for measurements, and as a result, I will be getting another cover, for another boat from them.
Quality wise, there is probably not much difference between the various companies, Speed Sails, Purple Marine, Banks, etc.
Another boat at Desborough has a 'Rain and Sun' cover in polycotton which looks ok.
I would recommend the polycotton covers as they are breathable and allow the boat to 'air' even when covered; especially useful if you have a wooden boat.
Hope this helps.

I have Sail Register covers for both my "non Moth" boats and I am very please with them. They do both breathable and non breathable, mast up/down over or under boom depending on choice and budget. Both the covers are nearly 3 years old and still in very good condition.

Hi Speed Sail covers will give you 10% off if you tell them you are a member of the BMBA and they do seem to fit the Moth well. I have a breathable boom up from them and very happy with it! New Boy

Thanks chaps Ordered a P and B one today, they are presently giving a decent discount and it seemed good value I must say I thoroughly enjoyed sailing at the Desborough open, and thanks to all of those whose helped keep 259 going throughout the day Also to Gary for the second-hand sail (Ollie, he said it was one of your past ones) which I used for the first time at South Bank SC on sunday. Surprisingly we won in a mixed fleet with 7 minutes in hand ! Have a look at our website ( www.southbanksailingclub.co.uk), do you moth sailors fancy a long distance race to Westminster and back (see the enterprise 50th link) perhaps next year ?? Thanks again Chris

Chris, Glad you got sorted and your new purchase will keep 'Flutter' nice and snug and dry. We see that apart from your outstanding success at South Banks SC with your new ' ex-Tompkins sail' that you managed a creditable 6th at Desborough. What about ending the season with a trip out West to Frampton with 'Flutter' of course and let her loose on a pond in wonderful tropical settings? We would love to see 'Flutter' Roger Witts Frampton Moths (currently resting)

Hi Chris, glad you enjoyed Desborough. As Roger said, you'd be very welcome to come join us at Frampton for the last bash of the season on the 11th Oct. The water's lovely this time of year, and we're dead easy to find - straight down the M4, turn right at Swindon, cross the M5 and don't fall into the Severn! ;D
Had a look at your club's site. Couldn't find the link to Enterprise 50 however, though that's probably me just being blind as a bat (actually, just had an eye test and am patently not blind as a bat, so guess will have to settle for daft as a hare!).
That said, a long distance race to Westminster and back sounds like a fun adventure!

Try this link to the Ent. 50th www.southbanksailingclub.co.uk/50thPhotoGallery.htmIt is very tricky sailing through central London, the wind is very fickle due to tall buildings, added to this we leave to go down with the last of the ebb and hit the turn mark on slack (in theory !) and so you are pretty much sailing in a hole Bridges are fun, being headed, hitting the mast, meeting oncoming trip boats etc, not to mention current induced standing waves if the new tide is strong Give it a go, do come and visit us !
