As ever the Class is suffering from the availability of reasonable S/hand Boats. This has been a problem that will eventually may and does hinder new helms joining the Class....cant find a Moth so will get something else. With probably 3 or 4 new boats being built in each of the last 3 years you would think that this would be good for the Class as previous owned boats would be released for sale ..not always the case. Constantly I am being asked are there any good cheap S/hand Moths for sale, therein lies a problem...good and cheap do not necessarily go together ! In the recent past some very good Moths have been realised for little money but these are now getting very difficult to almost impossible to find. Seemingly gone are the days when most would even consider of doing up a boat let alone renovating one. New boats for all but the super keen are filtering thro to the S/hand market but all too slowly.
So do you have any SLEEPING MOTHS at your Club or do you know of any that are stored somewhere that may be given a new lease of life. Moths are meant to be sailed not stored.

Hello, i may be able to help.......
I have a few Moths...799, 701 and i think 699. All with mast, boom, tiller sails etc. Towards the weekend i will get them out and take some pics. 799 was almost completed and will need very little work and the hull of 699 had just been stripped and painted before they were put into storage.
Many thanks.

Frampton Willy Just noticed on ebay there is a nice old BM 4-- ready to sail and update as you go, £160 buy it now! That has got to be a bargain for someone. Cheers for now JH

I'm still keen to buy a wooden Moth in good condition, ideally with a road base and not a million miles from North London. Please message me or email me on hall_g@habsboys.org.uk if you have one. Many thanks.

I am onto some Moths that could be potentially for sale ....some time is needed to establish if they are actaully available. Then there is a list of people who want a Moth to look after first. BUT would be interested in hearing about the Moths that Mothless has. Emphasis MUST be on the boats being relatively race able....sad to say that in most cases older Moths may need serious re-construction and much time afforded to them.

I hope 799 is in good condition ..... that's Betchacanaecatchme ... a blue skinner composite with centre mainsheet track. Was a bit heavy when new (48.5 Kg's), but stiff and fast. Used to have a very good needlespar black top mast (lighter and more flexible than the standard needlespars)... and also had a Claridge boom on it. Not sure if it still has all that.
IIRC 699 and 701 are both Meritlocks. 701 used to go quite well in it's day, for a Meritlock.
