Good to hear that 617 is ready to take to the water Dan.
Funnily enough I asked this same question myself some time ago, and recently received the answer from Godfrey:
"Yes, she was Newtwitu from new when Andrew Cooper had her in the 1970's. Tom Copper's very successful boat was Twit, so a family connection there. She remained within the Broxbourne fleet for some time, then briefly at Paxton with Pam Fraser in the early 1990s who demonstrated that the home-made buoyancy hatches were useless and I think the class rules were changed following the experience! Check the rule amendment history for this. All winners are in the 2002 Yearbook."
When I purchased 617 she had been re-named, but I immediately reverted to Newtwitu for the same reasons of supersition.
Despite still having my Merlin Rocket, Wayfarer and now a Minisail, I'm still missing my Moths and keep looking at the two currently on ebay...
All Best,
Gavin

I couldn't resist buying BM617 back last Autumn and she has over-wintered in a lock-up next to my Merlin Rocket. The previous owner had done a magnificent job on the decks, but had to sell before addressing a small leak in the hull; I bought her back in pretty much bare-hull condition. Today I had a good look at the hull and couldn't see any obvious candidates for the leak - all looks very solid and is now completely dry. I was going to glass-tape the joints between the panels, but am now thinking instead of just covering them with a couple of layers of epoxy with micro-fibres mixed in, then re-painting, just to keep her original. I'm not totally convinced either way though.
My aim is to have her back on the water for the Summer without spending a fortune. I love this little boat for some reason, daft though that sounds!
Does anyone know the original colour of BM617?
Gavin

The story of BM617 continues. She is now based at Rickmansworth SC and is in great shape. The repairs to the hull ended up being really straightforward but time consuming; I went for the epoxy / microfibre treatment rather than using tape, then re-painted with pre-kote, primer, then finished in a cream colour by International. I have sailed her for a few hours now, and have found that she ghosts along in almost zero wind, and quite literally flies in a good breeze. What an absolutely cracking Moth; I'm keeping her for ever.
