For those who need to know now: 2013 National Championships will be held at Staunton Herald Sailing Club on 7- 10 August 2013. We had a great turn out this year, let's try and keep it going. This is a really nice piece of water which we visited on a pretty windy weekend this summer and the courses, safety cover and race committee were excellent. I am working on the rest of the fixtures now and will post them here when I have something sensible. Abby

Why the change from the 2cd week in August to the 1st week, Our family holiday in the first week, 2cd -9th ,is already booked so I will not be able to make the nationals except for the Saturday. Paul

Hi Paul Sorry to hear the dates clash. We gave options on dates to SHSC and this week suited them, remember they have to get club volunteers to run be the race officer, rescue boats etc. of course you more than welcome to join the committee and offer to take over organising the nationals.. Paul 7th to 10th is the second week isn't? Last years dates were 8th to 11th so it's hardly much of a change. Looking forward to Staunton Harold as I enjoyed the windy sail last season. Cheers Paul

If you believe the week starts on a Sunday, then the last week of July is 28 July - 3 August, so 1st week of August is Sunday 4th - Saturday 10. If you are a letting agent whose letting weeks are mostly Sat -Sat. which gives August 3rd - August 10th, or Friday - Friday lets which gives 4th - 11th. as 1st weeks. However I think the best way of working out the which is the second week is to say that it is the week which starts on second Sunday of the month. But, this gives anomalies when the 1st day of a month is a Monday or Tuesday. I think I'll stop here and go sailing. Paul

Paul By that logic this years nationals were in the first week then (1st August was a Wednesday).

I am afraid my forum knowledge is a bit limited so if someone knows how to move the Open dates up the topic list, please do so.

Really enjoyed doing the open circuit last season, my sailing improved and I got lots of help and advice about tuning and sailing the boat. Not doing so much this year I'm afraid as the travelling got to me in the end, but I do have the following pencilled in for 2013;
Stewartby White friars Hunts (maybe) Nationals
Looking forward to seeing everyone again in 2013
Cheers Paul

The main issue I have with travelling is the long distances to all the venues from York. I need to either travel on Friday or start off at an unfeasible hour of the morning. MW was a good example of the issues of travelling the same day; I missed the first race because some loon was threatening to throw himself off a bridge over the M1. I drove for a total of 8 hours that day for 2 races.
I would be a bit more inclined if opens were paired on a weekend as I coul get two in, but I would still have the expense of 2 overnight stays.
I'm doing the Northern part of the Streaker circuit this season as I can travel everywhere on Saturday, sail the races, return and sail at the club on Sunday.
Still looking forward to the BM nationals though, Streaker Nats are at Pittsford so I should know my way around!

Hi Abby I think you are kindly sorting the fixtures for this year. Aa we are about to start the seasons races could you post a firm list of all the opens and the qualifying rules for 2013. Number of races you need to complete and number of river events needed if any plus how many can count from each open. Dont mean to be a pain but this stuff needs to be known before we start. If its already on site then sorry. New Boy
