Looking forward to seeing some of you at the Whitefriars coaching weekend. you'll be sharing the water with boats from the Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association, and owners of older BM's looking to improve their sailing and the set up of their boats will be especially welcome, but owners of Moths of all ages (boats and helms!) will, I hope, gain loads from the coaching. Other boats on the water will include Minisails, Merlins, Classic International Moths, Finns and many others, maybe even an Aquabat, which should get you looking at those old boat books to work out what it is!
Below is a provisional programme so you can see what to expect from the weekend. More information on the weekend will follow.

Hi,
I'm seriously thinking of trundling down from Yorkshire for this weekend, will it be possible to arrive on Friday and be able to leave the boat?
Cheers Paul

Paul I am sure Uncle Rupert can sort something out for the Friday Night and give you the all important Code to get in thro gate at Whitefriars...If not you could always leave the boat at Frrampton [we are not too far away].All depends on where you plan to stay. RW

Hi Paul,
That wouldn't be a problem at all.
More generally, I've been looking up some accommodation.
There is a Premier Inn at Blunsdon, which is in N Swindon, just off the dual carriage way about 2 junctions from Whitefriars - about a 7-10 minute drive. That was approx £39 for a double room on the Sat night.
In Cirencester (similar time away) there is a Travelodge at approx £50, and in central Swindon the Travelodge is £34ish, but that is maybe 25 minutes away by the time you have reached escape velocity! A google search will also bring up B&B's in the local area - try Ashton Keynes and South Cerney for the nearest, but I think most are up at Cirencester. Camper vans are very welcome. Tents are too, but there may be problems with a boggy field if we get lots of rain, and it might be a bit cold... I'll ask about the possibility of camping on the lawn instead of on the field, which may solve the 1st problem.

I can't make it to the training event on the 24/25, but Sam and I will defininetly be going to Frampton on the 31st. New boat will probably not be ready in time but should have a new sail.

Just wondered if we may need to find a contingency venue for the Nationals ? Recent news about water levels at Pittsford have not been good (60% full). The folks at P&B said that Pittsford has permission to add water from the river .... but given a likely a spring / summer long drought status for this part of the world ... maybe we won't have enough water ?
Roger - maybe worth checking with Northants for their opnion? Would be a real shame not to be there for the 80th ... but if there's no water ..... I'm certainly not taking on all comers in the alterantive event of alcohol consumption ;-) :-)

Also suggest we do some research on rain dancing :-)

Toby...sound suggestion. However we have already approached 2 Clubs two weeks or so ago as possible reserve locations if we have to move the venue. BMBA- Fixtures

I'm still sorting myself out for the start of this season's series of epic journey's and I was trying to find the details of qualifying for the Somerville trophy so that I can finalise where I'm going over the next few months and make sure I qualify.
Where are they? Or better still ..... What are they?
Cheers Paul

Ignore my last, I've found them now:
Qualification There will be a total of 19 individual race results to count. No more than 3 results are to count from any one venue. Results from any zone may be included. Each qualifier must compete in a minimum of 2 River or a minimum of 2 Reservoir/Lake events with 4 results counting from each category. In the event of a tie the final positions will be decided from the results of the last race the tied competitors raced against each other[excl Nat Championship races].If the tie can not be broken the preceeding race the tied competitors raced against each other will decide the final placings. In the event of cancelled Opens or races,or if other external factors may arise the BMBA Committee will or may amend the qualifying conditions by written notice on the BMBA web-site. Individual race Points will be awarded as follows.... 1st --- 0.75 2nd -- 2.00 3rd --- 3.00 Retd -- No of Boats + 1.00

With only 2 days to go we are still aiming to increase registrations for the Nationals at Northampton. There will be Moth helms that are unable to get the time off to attend for the entire period so why not come for the Friday & Saturday races and also join us for the dinner on Friday evening. The fee will be prorata to the number of races sailed for any late comers. This years event promises to be a memorable one.
