as an outsider and not wishing to take sides, i think all of this discussion should be taking place, either one to one, by phone or by email. an open forum is not the place for it, because; 1) it shows us in a bad light to the out side world. 2) too many misunderstandings can happen and it can get too personnal. regards duncan on a lighter note, i look forward to seeing you all at the nationals.

HI Not sure I agree as the committee is there to represent the views of everyone and without open chat for people to air views then to be fair the Committee would only be able to guess what people want. None of my comments here are meant to offend or dictate but just inform and help people make choices. To make it easy for everyone to know if the Open is being held or not I would like to offer a bond to cover the £100? needed to hold it. From the Bond the committee can cover any shortfall and return the rest. If this is acceptable to the Committee then the problem is solved and we can go back into party mode. New Boy

Black Pig You are right a forum only represents the views of those who use it but that is far more people than would be represented in a private mail or phone call and the opportunity is there for everyone to see what is going on if they care to look or join in. Everyone has their own views on how to conduct business and my way, not to say that it is right is to do it in the most public and open way I can. I have no secrets and I am sure most would agree that as the Committee is there to represent everyone they would not wish to hide anything either. A forum is a great tool that I believe helps us be seen and yes that brings in the element of we should be carful with what is said here. Remember The moderators and Committee through them have the right to remove any posts or threads they do not feel should be on the site. To you and everyone else, members, visitors etc everything I write on here is my Opinion only and does not represent the thoughts of anyone else. As a Class I believe we are a stong group of friends who enjoy healthy debates. Yes sometimes we annoy each other but we all in our own way do and say what we believe is best for the Moth. As always I think about what people say and respect what they think so value your comments. As for the Northampton Debate I have said my piece and If the Committee choose to accept my offer then fantastic if not then that is their choice which is what life is all about, choices. New Boy

Lets just go for it, enjoy the sailing, enjoy the social side of it and if Metcheck is right then we will have excellent weather thrown in.

I am in agreement with Black Pig that the current debate on the forum re the extra cost of Saturdays racing at Pitsford is just one item that shows the Class in a bad light. There are several others that do not help the image of the British Moth as follows:
The front page picture has not changed in months.
The 2010 fixtures page remains empty
Results for Somerville 2010 are not all reported on the site nor forwarded to Y&Yachting and no "state of play" spreadsheet gives the current standings in this years competition.
The 2009 Somerville results have never been published to my knowledge.
I am sure to an outsider all of these things suggest a class that is in decline with very little happening, although this is not necessarily the case.
Whilst I am aware that the maintenance of the website requires time and effort ( I am NOT getting at any individual ) it is the "shop window" for the British Moth Association and desperately needs to be continuously updated so that not only current members, but prospective members can be aware of what is happening.
Most members will know who I am and what boat I sail now, but I still have an affection for the Moth and regularly look at the website to see whats happening, but apart from the forum nothing is happening and that is bad news.
Hopefully the Nationals will be a good event and who knows I may come and have a look!!!
Regards, OGF

Hi Good to see you still have an interest in Moths and it would be great to see you at the Nationals. Can you bring along a boat too and maybe sail a race or 7? You are so right about the web site front page and more so about the lack of results showing. The results bit was down to me. I have tried very hard many times to get the results on both here and the Web Page with no joy. If anyone knows how to make an Exel Doc work on here it would be great for some advice. I could not get Sailwave to work so my son made a spread sheet on Exel that does the job of sorting and taking off Discards etc. I asked for help with Sailwave but was not given any so had to do my best. It Has been handed on now but believe they are having the same problem. Get yourself back in a Moth we miss you New Boy

The club I sail at (Ripon SC) puts the results from sailwave straight onto the web site.
I don't know how they do it, but I'll ask today (if the guy is there) and see what the score is.

Old Grey Fox Thanks sticking the boot in and highlighting our short comings, just what the forum does not need,we are aware of faults and as ever there are good reasons information on the web is not complete and is being dealt with,it may be some comfort that for once you are in agreement with Roger . We are a small group of volunteers trying our best to keep thing going in our spare time most the information you are looking for is somewhere on the forum which has proved a useful source of information and advice for newcomers and new members giving prompt and informed advice. There are plenty of positive things going on and Mark was kindly safegaurding the BMBA ,s position in his own particular way. So lets keep it positive and we look forward to seeing you again and may well have a spare boat so you can join in the fun. Regards Graham

I only have one thing to say on this subject. I don't criticise how someone else is doing a job unless I am prepared to do it myself, particularly if they are doing it in there own time out of the kindness of there hearts. PS Laura, looking forward to seeing all the men sail in kilts!!!!
