And for those of you coming to Whitefriars, I will have a handy stock of Entry Forms and Envelopes - but I may rebel at the stamp (and certainly at the chequebook part!) abby

Friday update 12 entries 1 Junior 3 Ladies 8 Seniors Representing 7 clubs It would make it significantly easier for me and particularly Elaine Gillingham who will be handling the adminitration at the Nationals for me if I could have your entry before next Thursday 5th August as I am away on holiday from the saturday and will need to send all the information I have to Elaine prior to the event. If you intend to enter please help by letting me have your entry. Ian E

Entry forms and a cheque for me and Ben are going in the post as I type. Along with my belated membership renewal, for that matter. Appologies for being typically tardy with all this paperwork stuff, not my strong point!

I've found and sealed the latest leak in Bertie's hull and will be booking my place at the Nationals particularly as I have managed to get time off work and will be at the Nationals.

OPEN MEETING AT NORTHAMPTON
It has belatedly come to the Committee's attention that the cost of running a one day Open Meeting at Northampton SC on Saturday 14 August will be £100.00 in addition to the costs of the Championships. Accordingly, unless we have sufficient entries (minimum 17) by Wednesday 11 August to cover the costs of this event, it will be cancelled. If you, or anyone else you know, are intending in competing in the separate Open Event on Saturday 14 August you must have submitted your entry not later than registration Wednesday 11 August. Please pass this information on.

Hi I am confused by the last post here Abby. As it was I who arrange the Nationals and the cost of it for this year. The cost difference of adding the Open was £50 not £100. A total cost of £450 was agreed at the time of my meeting with them. Has this now changed? Has the Committee now agreed a new price and if so £100 for what is 2 extra races is rather expensive isnt it. I also think by telling people they have to enter by the 11th will put lots of people off as they want to see how they feel after sailing the Nationals and what the weather is doing force 5 etc. People wanting to turn up on the day will no longer be able to do so which is quite the opposite of what was intended. IF it helps I have had lots of people telling me they intend to stay on and sail the extra races weather permitting. New Boy

Yes. Ian Edwards was told £100 by Ian Castle for running a one-day open and this is reportedly half of NSC usual charge. The above post stands.

Hi Can you confirm for me that the total cost of Nationals and Open comes to £450 as this is what was agreed and passed onto the Committee at the meeting we held at Northampton last year. The costs should not have been a last minute thing for any of the committee. The cost included extra races in the week too. Is the £100 not just a distribution of costs over the 2 events? And the way it is being done now makes the Sat Open look expensive? You say yourself Ian was told £100 for a 1 day Open. If you divide this by 3 races £33.33 and allow for the fact that the 1st race is part of the Nationals and has been held on this Day anyway, then even with your figures that makes the extra cost for the Open £66.66 which at £6 would only need 11 boats. We should be making a good profit on this not worrying about making a loss! Only asking as the Committee making comments like it may be canceled may put off the 1 day travelers as they will have no way of knowing if the event is on or not. It would be a huge shame if the Open was can celled due to lack of numbers when there will be 20 plus boats that have already effectively done the 1st race of it. If someone enters the Open by the 11th and then feels they are not able to sail for whatever reason will the entry fee be returned? Not being on the Committee now gives me the chance to voice what is my opinion only. What do others think about this? New Boy

All getting a bit silly really... Forward forecast is for champagne sailing/ camping condition! Well that would be a treat. Really can't see the point in this squabble as there are bound to be more than 20 boats looking to sail on the Saturday ( had a rough count up and got to at least 30) and quite a few more hoping to come for the day. Surely any short fall in funds can be covered by the BMBA rather than spoiling the event for the people who have made the journey! As I see it the Association is there to make events happen for whoever wants to sail and should certainly not think of pulling the rug for the sake of putting entry fees up a £1 or 2!
Talk of cancelling is ridiculous and as we have experienced recently impossible to keep people informed of what is going on and just turns things sour... remember less than half the members actually use this website so just how do you intend to let people know?? I would be amazed if Northampton don't charge for a short notice cancellation anyway and would be very wary of offering us any future events... look what happened at W.O.S.C!
Don't understand the negative vibe when we are all up for a sailing party!
