This is Gary's Report but I get to type it!
Visitors from St Edmundsbury and Hunts were greeted with fine weather, but a light and fairly fluky SE wind. Abby Freeley from St Edmundsbury quickly went out to lead the first race - never to be really challenged. Gary Tompkins was second, Elaine Gillingham third and Colin Hall fourth.
The wind started to swing more upstream and fill in (slightly) for the second race. There were numerous position changes, with Colin struggling with his temporary replacement centre board in the short tacking between the numerous cruisers. Gary pulled clear to win (after Abby got knocked on to her backside and almost took out Elaine, and headed up for the Staines bridge worrying Gary who thought she was lost). Elaine was third and Colin 4th.
The wind then blew up for the 3rd race with close racing and numerous position changes. The final run upstream in the freshening conditions saw Gary, Abby and Colin precariously running 3 abreast, with Elaine barely 2 boat lengths behind. Gary pulled away on the final beat to win the race (and the Open) with Abby 2nd, Colin 3rd and Elaine 4th.
Overall - 1 Gary, 2 Abby, 3 Elaine, 4 Colin.
Our thanks to Race Officer Kevin Humphrey and Catering Annie Luke able all assisted by Commodore Dennis Miles.
