Tropical Frampton lived up to its name on Sunday 26th February for the first Club Racing of the 2012 Season. A 3-Race programme ...first races in the 2012 Club Championship attracted 4 Moths out....700,790,the newly aquired 757-"Lilac Beauty" and 871. With a British Moth winning the First H/Cap race by some distance and both 871-Ian Haywood and 700- Georgia Honey also well places we have started the 2012 Season well. The lighter winds increased slightly for Race 2 the Pursuit Race with the leading Moth finishing 5th in a 24 boat fleet.Ian looked very quick in the early stages of Race 2 but once caught and swamped by the leading Solos faded a little. Georgia retired but showed she could be quick in the lighter airs of Race 1. New Member and new owner of the ex-Tim Hogan "Lilac Beauty" Nicola Barrett looked comfortable in Race 2 and was going really well... Newest Newcomer" Tali" our Norfolk Terrier pup had her first outing in a MOTH..fully lifejacket up. No Moths verntured out in the 3rd race and were last seen heading for "The Bell" .... Non starters Team Latham have still got their boats to finish off but will be race ready in a couple of weeks and will be at Whitefriars and our own Open at the end of March. Andrew P-M was at Chew Valley and Steve Kendall was probably thrashing around somewhere in the glorious weather on his Bike. So we are off....the lake level is not good. As most Eastern and Southern Lakes/Reservoirs we need rain ..lots of it...but at least the level will be fine for the Open.

Sunday 18th March.. The second in FOSSC,s Championship Trophy Days saw a total of 4 Moths venturing out. It would have been 5 but Tony Latham was unwell. Son Chris had his first outing of the Season and after an indifferent first outing looked to be in the thick of it in his second race and going well. Nicola Barrett,Ian Haywood and Chris had a cracking race 3 with many position changes... I decided to sit this one out but the action looked great from the bank.A race incidentally that Bill Gribble and Helen won in an Enterprise ...leading from start to finish in fine style !
5 of us will be packing up later in the week to head for the Training Weekend at Whitefriars.

Sunday April 8th Mixed fortunes for the 5 Frampton Moths that ventured out in the third FOSSC Championship Trophy Days. In the first yours truly was caught OCS and had to re-start which enabled wily Ian Haywood after making a cracking start, to quickly build up a reasonable lead in the relatively clear air at the front of the fleet.Tony Latham seemed well placed but on a day when the shifts could be un-kind slipped back into the traffic.Eventually I managed to close on Ian but he sailed well and finished some 20seconds ahead of me.With a Laser 8.1 taking the win the 2 Moths were 2nd and 3rd.Tony finished 9th with Chris 13th. Race 2 the Pursuit race was held in a strengthening breeze and this time we were joinded by Nicola Barrett.Unusually I made a good start but all the Moths were caught very quickly by the leading Solo,s who had picked up a lift and arrived at the weather mark very close behind. The Solo,s hounded the leading Moths for a lap until I manged to pull clear and began to wear down the earlier starting Toppers.I manged to hang on and take the win from a gaggle of Lasers on a course that they really should have made more of as the long reaching legs should have suited them.Tony got the better of Ian with a 12th and Ian finished 19 th just holding off Nicola. As for poor Chris he was holed after thinking he would clear one of the Lasers in a port and starboard incident...oh dear...more Filler Chris ! Ian,Nicola and Myself sat out the last race as did "Titanic Chris" leaving only Tony to keep the Moth Flag flying with a 15th place. My 3rd and 1st place was enough to win the Concorde Trophy, with Tony getting the better of Ian with a 9th place overall and Ian in 10th. Boats are now packed up for the Travelling Season ...lets go and see our friends at MWYC !

Yesterday saw the last of the club Autumn Class Series, in which we sail as part of the handicap fleet. i.e. against anything other than Solos and Lasers who have their own starts.
The Moths were well represented throughout the series results and this final race saw Ian Haywood come to the start only requiring a fair result (4th or better) to win the series. After a good early race he did his best to throw his chance away by adding an extra mark to his course.
Tony went on to win the race, but it was down to how the Rooster had done, which was not great and with the best Enterprise absent Ian still got a 2nd and the series.
Congratulations are in order for a well deserved achievement with 2 1sts and 2 2nds counting

Sun 21st October
A club championship day - International Paints Trophy - 3 races H,cap/Pursuit/H'cap saw 3 Moths take to the water for race 1. At the end, after again going the wrong way, Ian just got over the line ahead of Tony in 7th and 8th, after a good close race long tussel. Nichola wasn't too far behind in 10th.
In the pursuit Tony got the slightly better start, and crucially rounded the first mark ahead of the Solos who only yield 30 seconds at the start. Ian held his own for a while but Tony extended the gap for a good while, without seeming to make much impression on the toppers out in front. Then after 41 minutes the leading Solo, and Phantom closed up, but the toppers were also caught shortly after. Tony held onto 3rd fighting off the 1st laser at the final mark, and Ian 10th.
The 1st Solo had 2 wins and therefore sat out the last race, Ian also called it a day, Tony battled on in the hope of better than the first race 8th. Overtaking lasers and Solos at times, with only a Rooster and laser out ahead there was hope - fulfilled with 2nd on Handicap and 2nd overall.
We are still trying to hold the torch for the Moth, even without Roger joining us!
