Ian,
I spoke to JC the other day and he said the thickness of the rudder blade is approx 19mm so it will suit a 20mm rudder stock. If your rudder stock is wider you can pack it out to fit.

For the record.... The NEW John Claridge British Moth Rudder shape is quite different to a Lightning Rudder Blade...it is longer and much less broad. It is of course designed to fit the excellent light alloy stock assembly that John makes for both Moths and Lightnings. RW

i know its different to the old lightning rudder, but it does look very similar to the new lightning rudder blade( which is longer and thinner), which john has just introduced to the lightning class. also robbie/john has already posted it as a moth/lightning blade and the picture seems to show it hanging off the back of a lightning

Isn't it hanging off the back of that pink moth?
I saw a lot of the back of that pink moth at the nationals (twice in one race!) but I still couldn't be sure.

thats what i thought at first, but am not sure the deck joint looks right. looks more like a lightning to me, but i could be wrong, it would not be the first time! anyway it was solent(john or robbie), who said it was a new blade for british moth/lightning.

I thought it was a lightning too.

I just found it difficult to believe that someone would have two boats that colour

i know, it would not be my choice of colour. elaine likes it and has said in the past she would like a boat that colour. back to the boat, just seen the photo in the lightning class mag. yes its very pink. yes its a lightning its owned by the vice chairman of the class assoc. and its called ' all the gear'

Hi Guys, A nice large update of photos for your viewing pleasure I'd forgotten to measure the lip at the back so I'll try and do it tonight! We plan to use the same rudder blade and stock for both British Moths and Lightnings.

It all looks nice. Even an old die hard (a boat must be made of wood) man like me could be tempted. Pity its out of my budget at the moment. A bit concerned about the buoyancy in the pics of the 19th though!

REF buoyancy: As the boat is of sandwich construction it is inherently buoyant. The purpose of the plastic containers is to keep the boat level and easy to rescue in the event of a catastrophic port and starboard!
