A bright and breezy Saturday morning greeted the four local boats and four visitors that turned out for the Desborough SC British Moth Open.
The first race was sailed at 11.00 with a starboard course with a sausage in front of the clubhouse and started first time. Local boats of Richard Broughton and Olly Saunders along with Gary Tomkins of SESCA battled at the front for first place eventually taken easily by Tomkins with Broughton second and Saunders third. There was also a close battle in the middle of the fleet with Colin Hall and Abby Freeley jockeying for fourth.
The second race sailed after lunch in a slightly stronger breeze and this time with a port course and sausage on front of the clubhouse, was just as fiercely contested at the front of the fleet as race one with Saunders leading for most of the race and taking the bullet with Broughton second and Tomkins in third. Hall and Freeley again fourth and fifth respectively.
Going into the final race with three helms on four points, there was all to race for. In what turned out to be a slightly shorter race, Broughton came in first, closely followed by Saunders and then Hall in third. Tomkins fourth and Freeley consistent with another fifth.
This tied Broughton and Saunders on three points leaving Broughton to claim victory with a win in the final race. Tomkins finished third overall. A great days sailing was had by everyone and a well deserved winner Richard Broughton who has been after that trophy for some with it having been elusive until now! On behalf of Desborough SC I’d like to thank everyone for coming and hope to see you all and more next year.
