The Staines Moth Open was held in very flukey winds and hot sunshine. The first race was led from the start by Colin Hall in Hawkmoth who went on to win, followed by Abby Freeley. The other positions were hotly contested with Richard Keefe (sailing in his first River race), Gary Tompkins, Steve Seargeant and Dennis Miles repeatedly changing positions. Richard came third and Steve pulled up to fourth.
The second race again saw numerous place changes in the fluky winds. Steve eventually pulled through to win, followed by Gary and Colin.
With all to play for in the final race, it was dominated by Steve who convincingly won the race and the Open meeting, retaining the trophy. A nail-bitingly close race between Gary and Abby to the finish line ended with Gary ahead, determining the final placings.
1. Steve Seargeant - Parsnip - 865 2. Gary Tompkins - Vapourer - 862 3. Colin Hall - Hawkmoth - 504 4. Abby Freeley - Lappet 783 5. Richard Keefe - Painted Lady - 817 6. Dennis Miles - Laura Lee - 808 7. Phil Vinson - Laura Lee 808
Our thanks to Staines, Dennis and Annie, for their hospitality both for the Saturday night campers and Sunday sailing, and to Kevin the Race Officer.
