I am going down to Aardvark to pick up my new carbon mast and boom on Friday. A little later than originally planned due to unforeseen circumstances, work and weather! The weather forecast is again not so good so watch this space! It will be a while before I get a chance to sail with it but when I do I will report back!

Successfully collected my new mast on Friday! It looks great ,which is obviously the most important thing, very, very, very dark green, looks black until the light catches it. I went down to collect it from Terry at Aardspars, near Weston Super Mare, with New Boy. The main roads were clear but the back roads NOT! We had to push a Transit van which had got stuck out of the way and were only able to make it up the slope up to Terry's workshop with the help of snow chains! As soon as we arrived it started snowing again and continued for most of the 3+ hours it took to rig the mast! Terry was great, he didn't seem to feel the cold like Mark and I did, in fact Mark lost all feeling in his fingers and was only saved by cradling several cups of tea. I have taken some pictures on my phone, so they are not of very good quality and will email them to Mark because I don't know how to post them on this forum. Finally it stopped snowing so we ran my sail up the mast and it sits really nicely. Due to work I won't be sailing for several months so it will be a while before I can report further but as I said earlier it looks ace which is the main thing! Many thanks to Terry for making such a lovely looking piece of kit and to Mark for letting me night stop and feeding me at his place on Thursday night, pushing the Transit van up the hill, helping rig the mast and also buying me lunch in a nice warm pub afterwards! Originally I was planning to take the new mast up to Roger's and he was going to put it on his rig to measure it's stiffness in comparison to his carbon mast but with all the snow and the forecast of more to come I wimped out and drove straight home to avoid getting stuck. I will post another report when I finally get to sail with the new mast in the New Year.
Cheers Richard.
