I am starting to seek out prices for a decking out service for the B.M.B.A Hull and also when ready with Johns approval for the new Claridge Hull. These prices will be posted as soon as I get them. I intend when I have time( next month) to put together a finish it off price. Parts only. This will include If I can sort, all cleats, blocks, String, lowers, kicker etc as a package from at least two suppliers. Also mast, trolley and covers prices from several suppliers. I really believe we need to work towards getting a price for a complete ready to go boat. I understand that there are people like myself who want more control into the finished boat and this will still be available but I think the average sailor wants an off the shelf boat that they can jump straight into without a years planning and fitting out. I hope that with a couple of fitting out options that will cover from the basic to the up to date latest developments that there will something for all budgets. The British Moth rules allow for lots of your own input so please seek out other builders or if you are up to the task build your own., New Boy

Hi All I would like to explain my reasons for this thread. This year I took ownership of my new British Moth ASBO. As I am still very new to sailing I found the whole experience of finding a builder and getting a price quite difficult to say the least. I came across John Claridge who was a great help. The process took a long time as the boat was re- designed to maximize water line length and make the best use of the fair curve on the Bow. John decked the boat out to my spec. As new to sailing this was not easy to come up with and basically I took all the things I liked from Painted Lady and made changes that suited the way I sail. I should add that I am very happy with the outcome. When it came to fittings I received a great deal of help from Roger and Laura who I have not properly thanked. They spent a complete day with me helping to choose blocks, Pulleys string etc and once it all arrived they worked hard getting it all bolted onto ASBO. You would be amazed at the amount of individual parts needed for fitting out a boat. Having gone through all of that and being lucky enough to have received so much help and learning along the way, I would like to pass help on to others and make the whole process of renovating or purchasing a new Moth easier. As you can see the list of prices is starting to come together. It is clear from what I have put together so far that the cheapest way to buy a British Moth other than self build is to buy a complete boat. The builders pass on the discounts they get from bulk buying while keeping a modest profit, so everyone gains. At present we have several builders who can be approached to supply a British Moth complete or part built. I have started asking for prices on complete and part finished boats from all established builders and from some new ones too. I will continue to put together a list of the different elements of our British Moth and I hope it will help you with the refitting of old Moths and the purchase of new ones. Support our British Moth builders as without them we would end up as a swimming Association. New Boy
