MOTH Gathering and Training Day - October 4th 14 Boats, including a Frampton Virgin,Andy Bourn from Chippenham S & C C. The forcasted Force 2-3 breeze duly arrived along with that Tropical sunshine. Good as always to see Andrew Perrott,Elaine Laverty[and Duncan and Sam of course]and And Bourn join us for a good sesssion of Mini-Races. Lots of Fun on and off the water but it was good to see Ian Haywood going really well in the Mini-Races and in the first of the Club races in the afternoon. Andrew P-M now Superspar equipped was back on the pace again.Bill,Jeremy,Graham and New Boy were all "at it"again but Laura Honey making a rare appearance back in a Moth again seemed to be jet propelled up the beats to recover from bad starts. Elaine Laverty hit the front in 850 in one race and seemed well in contention in others. New Boy also seemed to be getting used to "Asbo" and going much better. Likewise further down the Fleet ,Steve Kendall a good and regular supporter to all things Frampton, was enjoying himself with "Orinoco" looking fine. No pictures from this session..... we all decided to go sailing !

Winter at FRAMPTON A few Moths are still racing thro to Christmas but most of us have or will soon be packing away the Boats ready for the 2010 Programme.New Boy is no doubt proposing a full-on programme for the BMBA and we will have our own Events as well to look forward.Apart from our Moth Training Days,Moth Gatherings,Fowey Pilgrimage,we will have our own Class starts in 2010.Also we will have a Full Moon Race sometime[Full Moon I guess!]...think its in June which will be our first venture out in the dark !Scary eh ! As for the Winter, apart from quite a bit of activity on the new boat front and as ever boats changing hands we have the following events up-coming.... FOSSC Quiz Nite[December]- expect another hopeless performance from the Frampton Moths ! Frampton Moths Xmas Do[January] - sorry a Frampton only event...festive chit-chat and Beer ! "Come Dine with New Boy"[January] - Apperitivos at FOSSC then Sunday Lunch at The Bell. FOSSC Dinner/Prizegiving[February]- Frampton Moths pick up their Booty! March 7th - Start of FOSSC Season. March 13th - Moth Training Day March 20th - "The Suspense Trophy" Moth Open

We do have four people on our team that know everything about nothing but nothing about everything so think we are Doomed. We do have a Junior to save us though so who knows. My money is on us winning the pasty eating contest. New Boy

Well we combined to make one large team..."Get M off" and put up a strong fight against 8 other teams of hardened quiz participants. We were not last and if it were not for the canoeing question,a couple of London bridges and Linguini we would have finished 6th or 7th ! As it was we beat the Laser lot and upheld our repuatation for being woefully thick but noisy ! Needless to sat a great time was had .... Team Members Wendy Pope Laura Honey Georgia Honey Nikki Farqhuar-Huntingdon-Smythe Pappa Pope Mark Wiltshire and yours truly.
[.........bet we would thrash all of them at Indoor Moth Racing !]

We are off ...... !!! First Race of Framptons first ever Moth Series was held on Sunday 7th March. 5 Moths[1 DNS...Steve Kendall administering some last minute adjustments to "Orinoco"] Conditions fantastic...wall-to-wall sunshine with a tricky at times Force 2-3. Modesty prevents me from saying who won but behind "Wild Bill" Gribble was going well and maintained a comfortable position ahead of Jezza Higson[still in "Mog" as the new boat is just about to be started]with Ian Haywood not too far behind. All 2010 FRAMPTON Moths[with the exception of Tony Latham] have had an outing this season...even the BMBA Chairman,s Good Lady made a rare appearanmce on the water at the Training Day ! Tony,s excuse is that "Oak Beauty"is not quite ready yet and he has become Grandfather. [twice in the last few weeks....Congrats Grandad !] Laura did not make it on the water for the Training Day but gave "Tabby" a wild ride on Sunday with her "new" Classic Sail. Looks like Chris Latham may be selling his Moth and Adam Dix will be selling the unique "Eclaire".I also understand that there may be a Moth or two coming up for sale soon from Severn Sailboats[Graham Pope]. "Painted Lady" leaves us after the Open on long term loan to Richard Keefe at SESCA but will be back.

4 Moths turned up on Sunday for the 3rd Race in the Moth Series but only 2 made it to the start. The low turnout due to Bill being injured[fell out of his High-Chair! and has bruised ribs],a few reputed to be on Holiday, too cold for some,a couple absent without leave and one was sailing in a Mirror ! However New Boy and yours truly had a great sail in the fresh breeze. New Boy headed at the windward mark sailing very quickly.I managed to slip by him on the next beat but he stayed very close for 2 laps before I gradually eased out a more comfortable gap.The 2 Claridge Boats were really flying off wind...planing very flat with good acceleration and holding the plane well after the gust had passed. We manged to catch the Solo,s[started 2 minutes ahead] and kept ahead of the Lasers who really should have been all over us. Notably the Friendly Fireman was sailing much much flatter and was reaping the benefits in boat speed and was for once was not complaining about how the boat was handling...I wonder why !!! Fantastic planing conditions.I hung on for the win and Mark finishing just behind. Graham and Alex Pope missed the start of the Class Race but Graham entered the General H,Cap Race.He looked to be going well and manged an 8th in X-Moth against the quicker boats in perhaps not ideal Moth conditions. One more Class Start on April 4th before the Open at MWYC on April 10th.
