Note : I made a few errors for which I am sorry on the above post. They have been corrected now, and unless anyone else points out more, the dates are as set out above. I believe several of the dates set out in the Chrysalis will be wrong too as I missed the deadline to change them - New Boy
Somerville Series 2010
After looking at the questionnaires, speaking to lots of people and monitoring the debates on the Web site I have come up with a Series of races which I hope offers something for everyone.
It seems to me that we all want several things for our Moths. A place to sail against new and old friends. Varied locations, close racing, a good social year with camping B.B.Q suppers and entertainment.
With the above in mind I have decided to go for a full on summer calendar which I hope will have something to offer for everyone. The series includes old and new clubs, Rivers, lakes and even an estuary. It includes both one day and weekend opens with Camping. I placed all the venues on a map and they are all quite central to the main concentration of sailors. I feel that in years to come we should work our way out from this base and expand in all directions to help the clubs outside of this area.
The series will include 19 opens held over fifteen weekends. Due to the number of opens in 2010, I have implemented a different scoring system which will allow for more people to qualify while enabling me to provide lots of choice of venues.. The scoring system I have employed will make it possible for people to qualify in just four weekends or three weekends and the Saturday of the Nationals.
Camping has been arranged at all weekend opens and I plan to add entertainment where possible. Furthermore, at one day events held on the Saturday most clubs are happy for Camping and to join in with club racing on the Sunday. This I hope will make the traveling worth while and give a chance to show off our boats to more of the club members at new clubs in the series which is great publicity for our class. A few of the Sunday opens will involve a class start alongside club boats. I have also done this to get our Moths noticed and create an interest for them.
I will be taking Painted Lady along to most of the opens I attend as a spare boat for members of the host clubs to join in the fun with. Graham Pope has offered to do the same. It has been decided that it would not be realistic to expect guests to the class to pay a B.M.B.A. subscription to enter one Open. These guests can take part in one Open subscription free but their scores will not count towards the series.
I hope as many of you as possible come along to support the series and I look forward to close racing and fun nights on the bank afterwords.

Hi
Please check out the Fixtures list above as it has been pointed out to me that I had left Shropshire Sailing Club off of the list. This was booked before the start of the season so has now been added. I have not changed the number of races you need to Qualify so adding it should only improve peoples chances to get in the 18 races.
Shropshire has Three Moths of it's own and is well suited to our Boats. I feel it would be a shame to miss the opportunity to help them expand their fleet and our Sailing coverage of the country.
This decision was made with the approval of our Chairman G.Pope
Very Sorry for my mistake

OPEN MEETING AT NORTHAMPTON
It has belatedly come to the Committee's attention that the cost of running a one day Open Meeting at Northampton SC on Saturday 14 August will be £100.00 in addition to the costs of the Championships. Accordingly, unless we have sufficient entries (minimum 17) by Wednesday 11 August to cover the costs of this event, it will be cancelled. If you, or anyone else you know, are intending in competing in the separate Open Event on Saturday 14 August you must have submitted your entry not later than registration Wednesday 11 August. Please pass this information on.

Hi
I am confused by the last post here Abby. As it was I who arrange the Nationals and the cost of it for this year. The cost difference of adding the Open was £50 not £100. A total cost of £450 was agreed at the time of my meeting with them. Has this now changed? Has the Committee now agreed a new price and if so £100 for what is 2 extra races is rather expensive isnt it.
I also think by telling people they have to enter by the 11th will put lots of people off as they want to see how they feel after sailing the Nationals and what the weather is doing force 5 etc. People wanting to turn up on the day will no longer be able to do so which is quite the opposite of what was intended.
IF it helps I have had lots of people telling me they intend to stay on and sail the extra races weather permitting.
